Is V8 fruit juice really as healthy as the advertisements say it is?

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

You know those commercials that go "You still could have had a v8?"
I was wondering if it is healthier to just drink water? I’m asking this because v8 (fruit juice) has some vitamins and what not, and water doesn’t. Which one is healthier in the long run?

Well it depends what you’re looking for in your drink.

V8 is good because it gives you those extra vitamins, minerals, and fiber, but it contains extra calories, sugars, and preservatives as well.
Water is good because it hydrates without the calories, preservatives, etc., but it doesn’t contain any vitamins, fiber, etc.

In the long run the best thing to do is drink water, but still get your vitamins, minerals, and fiber from the actual fruits and vegetables. Eventhough V8 supplies this it could add an extra couple pounds from the calories and high-fructose corn syrup as well as leading to other bodily disfunctions. V8 though is better to have than other drink alternatives such as soda, coffee, and energy drinks. So just have everything in moderation. V8 won’t do much damgage, since it is a juice.

I do suggest Naked brand juice. Many of their juices contain no high-fructose corn sryup and even the ones that do have it contain very little. Most of their juices contain little to no water as well meaning that it is all fruits and vegetables.

Acai Fruit Juice – Mother Nature’s Redbull

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

The Acai berry is one of the most amazing natural wonders of the world when it comes to nutritional and healthy food. The studies that have come out showing how poorly nourished most people are has lead to a craze in the health food industry and Acai berries are at the top of the list of the healthiest and best for you.

The Acai berry is small, approximately one inch in diameter, though over eighty percent of this berry is made up of a seed. The berries are either purple, this is the most well known, or they are green. While the seed does not have nutritional value for humans it is the perfect addition to top soil or even livestock feed.

It is the pulp and skin that are the most prized and most well known outside of their native habitat. This is what is what ends up in the various food items such as juices, yogurts, and ice creams as well as being sold dried or frozen. The reason why it is so eagerly sought after is due to the fact that it has one of the highest ORAC assay results ever recorded for a food.

The ORAC assay determines the ability of the antioxidants within a particular food to inhibit the effects and activities of free radicals. Acai berries scored over 1000 on this assay. This means that it is currently one of the most potent free radical fighting foods available. Current studies on Acai berries are finding more and more benefits such as fatty acids, amino acids, large quantities of nutrients that the body needs for increasing metabolic functions and for increasing energy.

Having an energy drink with Acai berries in it works to provide the body with even more energy than a cup of coffee and it has nutritional value that coffee does not have, making it possible for the energy to be longer lasting than you get from coffee or even from carbohydrate and sugar laced food.

The Acai berry has a taste likened to a mixture of chocolate and berries. This makes it delightful by itself, but it also a great addition to a number of foods. This versatility allows for great creativity when it comes to finding ways to incorporate Acai berries into the diet.

Acai berries do not maintain their viability for long after they are harvested which is why they appear as either juice or frozen/dried berries. This helps to maintain the mineral and nutrient content as well as making it viable as an export product and convenient for a variety of purposes.

What is Natural Lemon and Lime flavor if a Drink contains no fruit juice?

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Like on Gatorade it says Natural Lemn and Lime Flavors ont te front of bottle, buton back it says contains no fruit juice, and ingredients do not say what the naturalflavors are made of.

It could be an extract of lemon or lime, and it could be an artificial flavor. But an actual extract would be expensive. To say it is a natural flavor, the artificial type would have to be the same chemical that’s in real juice, just made artificially for cost reasons.

Either way, would supply natural flavor without actual juice which contains fruit sugar and maybe some pulp.

All The Secrets You Don’t Already Know About Mangosteen Fruit

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

The mangosteen fruit comes from of course a mangosteen tree that originate in the subtropical regions of South East Asia. Nowadays mangosteen fruit is grown all over the world including many countries across Asia, Africa and North and South America. Mangosteen trees are generally very tall and are shaped like a pyramid that enables them to best draw in heat from the sun and gather water when it rains. Most of these trees including the mangosteen fruit do not tolerate colder climates and will generally not last very long at all below 45°F.

This is one of the reasons why mangosteen fruit is so expensive to buy in America as most of it has to be imported from countries that can sustain natural growth for these trees, more so countries like Thailand and Indonesia. One other reason why mangosteen fruit is so expensive is because it is one of the hardest fruits on Earth to grow. Basically for a tree to spout their flowers, all conditions must be perfect. Many locals of Thailand believe that growing mangosteen is more of an art that anything and take their jobs very seriously. Mangosteen trees like the soil to be wet but not too wet, they hate the cold, salty air and high elevations. Also the soil they prefer is not sandy or silty. Most trees grow in Rainforests where the conditions are absolutely perfect and you may notice them growing like wildflower in the depths of the rainforests in South East Asia.

One other thing that most people don’t know about is that it takes ten years before a tree is able to produce any mangosteen fruit. The fruits are normally 1 to 3 inches long and colored purple. The top of the fruit has a small blossom where the fruit was picked from and you will also notice that it is made up into 4 to 8 triangular segments.

Mangosteen fruits have two parts: the white center fruit, and the purple outer hull. The white center fruit is divided into segments, and there is one segment for each triangle in the blossom remnant. The white part of the fruit is prized for its flavor. Some people feel that it is the most delicious fruit in the world.

The outer rind of the mangosteen fruit is thick and purple. It contains bitter latex, and the purple juice is a permanent dye. This outer rind is also the richest source of healthful xanthones in the world. Mangosteen fruit has over 40 different xanthones.

Where Can I Get a Mangosteen Fruit?

Because mangosteen fruit is so expensive, it makes it hard to find especially if you live in a region of the world where it is not readily available. The fruit must be picked at a certain time and generally does not stay very long so you are going to have to make sure the fruit you pick isn’t off already.

You can get mangosteen from any supermarket provided they stock it, which is many cases they don’t. Most people choose to purchase the juice off the internet because it is cheaper and easier to find.

Is fruit juice a good substitue for real fruit?

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

I love OJ, apple juice, and what not; but I dont care for the actual fruit itself. Am I missing out on something by drinking the juice instead?

Alot of companies add all sorts of weird dyes and sugars to your juice. At least if you are going to drink it buy ones that have no additives.

You really should eat fruits. Eating them in the raw and not processed is always the best way to get nutrients! Get a juicer and make your own!

How do you make sorbet from fruit juice?

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

I really want to make sorbet for dessert tonight. I want to make Passion Fruit sorbet but I can’t buy actual Passion Fruits the only thing that is available is Passion Fruit juice. I’m not quite sure how to make sorbet from juice so can anyone tell me how?

Most sorbet is a mixture of a simple syrup and fruit juice. A simple syrup is equal amounts water and sugar heated to dissolve the sugar and then chilled.

I would use equal amounts fruit juice and syrup. Some fruits benefit from the addition of citrus. i.e. Add a little lime juice (a few tbs) to the mix.

Here’s a real recipe for reference
