Acai Berry Tablets – Better Than Juice?

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

No doubt you’ve heard the buzz surrounding acai berry tablets and acai berry juice. This popular “superfood” called acai has been featured on Oprah, the Today Show, and several other programs. Acai berries contain a host of nutrients such as antioxidants, fiber, and omega-3, -6, and -9 fatty acids. But which is more beneficial, the capsules or the juice?

From a health standpoint, the pills are probably more beneficial than the juices. Like most fruit juice products, acai berry juice is often sold as a juice blend. MonaVie, for example, is actually a blend of nineteen different fruit juices. Consequently, you don’t really know how much acai you’re getting. Juices also tend to be watered down and may contain added sugar or other undesired ingredients. Be sure to read the labels on all fruit juices, as many of them surprisingly contain very little juice.

By contrast, acai berry tablets are created through a much more precise process that results in a purer product. The acai berries are freeze-dried and then processed into a fine powder that can be encapsulated or compressed into a tablet. However, this powder is not the same as “acai berry powder” that is yet another form of acai. The loose powders that you can buy in bags are made from acai berry extract, not the freeze-dried berries. So if you want to get the most acai for your money, the tablets are the way to go.

Other reasons for choosing tablets over juice include personal preference, budget, and lifestyle. Some people do not like the taste of acai berries, while others just prefer the convenience of taking a pill. Last but not least, acai berry juice is not cheap. A bottle of MonaVie costs almost $40, and it has only enough servings for about one week. At $40 per week, that’s about $173 per month or $2080 per year. Bottles of acai berry tablets vary greatly depending on the manufacturer (be careful — cheaper brands may not contain authentic acai), but the average price per one-month supply is only about $58.  If sparing $2 a day to look and feel great is too much, then acai may not be for you.

What was the health danger pointed out in the recent report advising against drinking fruit juice daily?

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

I’m not at all addicted to fruit juice, but (because I’m an older guy) I’ve been forcing myself to drink a lot of cranberry juice (daily) the past few years because of cranberries’ positive effect on urinary health.

A few days ago I heard about the report that drinking fruit juice on a daily basis dramatically increases some serious negative health condition–but I do not recall what that condition is. Anyone know?

The most recent problem with fruit juices is the sugars they naturally contain. Fructose, and other sugars, lead to weight gain. This weight gain is primarily in and around the belly. Belly fat is the most dangerous fat. It can decrease ones ability to open the diaphragm and breath properly and cause heart problems. The sugar in fruit juices can cause a rise in insulin levels and increase the risk of diabetes.
If you are drinking the sugar free calorie reduced ( so they don’t just substitute the sugar for fructose or other sugars) and you only drink a cup or two a day, it don’t think it would hurt you at all. I used to drink a cranberry juice that had like 30 calories a cup. That one should be fine for you.

Other dangers of fruit juices are they may interact with some medications, especially grapefruit juice and grapefruits, some orange juice and apple juices

Other dangers are from drinking unpasteurized fruit juice and these have sometimes carried diseases like salmonella.

I hope this has answered your question

Is drinking apple juice just as bad for you as drinking Pepsi?

Friday, February 5th, 2010

I’ve been drinking apple juice for a while now and haven’t paid attention to the label. I just took a look at the label on apple juice compared to Pepsi, and everything is practically the same for 8 oz. Sugar, carbs, sodium. I can’t believe this! Any thoughts?
Same amount of calories too!!

Yes, the fruit juices are just as bad as the sodas. I recently found out I am diabetic and fruit juices is one of the items I am no longer aloud to drink. To drink a fruit drink I will need to make it myself using real fruit. Most people think that the fruit juices are ‘healthier’ for you, when in fact they are not.

Constipation Remedy Using Citrus Juice

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Citrus Juices

Citrus juices are a constipation remedy that is an excellent way to stimulate your colon and other parts of the body. Since your colon is less active at night, drinking juices as soon as you awaken and get up can stimulate strong peristaltic action and promote a bowel movement.

Lemons

Lemons are filled with minerals, especially potassium, Vitamin C, and bioflavonoid. They have a cleansing action for the entire body.

Fresh lemon juice is the king of fruit juices. It contains citric acid, which acts in the body in a way no other juice does. First it acts on the liver to build up its enzymes so it can detoxify toxins in the blood. Then it combines with calcium to form soluble chemical substances. This makes it effective in removing kidney and pancreatic stones, pluck build up along artery walls, and other calcium deposits that occur in the body.

When the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas are not working right, food digestion is affected. This in turn will create constipation.

Use lemons moderately since they break up oils during digestion and in our body they make oils less available to our cells and joints.

If you have lemon allergies or ulcers then you should avoid lemon juice. If you have arthritis lemons are not a good choice.

Here’s what to do:

Squeeze one lemon into a glass of warm distilled water. Drink it first thing when you wake up. Don’t drink anything else for at least 1/2 hour

You can use a citrus press to juice the lemon or just squeeze it to get the juice out.

Grapefruit Juice

Another constipation remedy you can use is drinking a glass of fresh squeezed grapefruit first thing in the morning. Again wait at least 1/2 hour before you eat anything.

If you are taking any anticonvulsant drugs, birth control pills, estrogen, protease inhibitors and even other types of drugs avoid drinking grapefruit juice. It slows the breakdown of certain drugs allowing them to increase in the blood to dangerous levels.

Grapefruit and Orange Juice

One drink I like in the morning is a combination of grapefruit and orange juice. Just prepare a half and half drink of these citrus fruits and drink it first thing in the morning.

The Benefits Of Pure Mangosteen Juice

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

There are a lot of benefits to be had from pure mangosteen juice, where do they come from? From the powerful antioxidants and nutritional components from the mangosteen fruit. This fruit is praised as one of the most powerful and healthy fruits from the tropical areas. It’s considered to be very delicious, and rare; only ripening twice a year.

About the same size as a tangerine the mangosteen is smooth and dark purple in color (the rind that is). The fleshy tasty fruit inside is white, and the majority of those who try it say its one of the most exquisite fruits they’ve tasted. The fruit has been used to help control fever, p;ain, and even ward of particular infections before they start. Those that drink pure mangosteen juice, or take a supplement say they experience increased energy, and protection against disease and illness. It also acts as a wonderful natural anti inflammatory.

What are the Benefits of Pure Mangosteen Juice?

There are not a lot of brands offering 100% pure mangosteen juice, actually to the best of knowledge there is only one. The majority of mangosteen juice makers use a portion of mangosteen fruit, mixed with a variety of other high antioxidant fruit juices. Xango is one of the manufacturers of mangosteen juice, that offers a blend such as this.

One of the most amazing things about pure mangosteen juice and the fruit also is that it’s not the inner white part of the fruit that holds all of the nutritional and healthy value. How ever it is the pericap that possesses all of the antioxidants, as it is the single best supply known of for the powerful xanthones. Pure mangosteen juice provides us all of this but in an easy to ingest drinking form.

Drinking pure mangosteen juice really is a type of supplement, you’re able to ingest all of the nutritional power of the mangosteen fruit in a potent small serving. Of course it’s really the only way for us to take advantage of the health benefits of the mangosteen fruit here in North America as it’s not imported as a whole fruit.

Studied more then any other fruit the mangosteen hold huge nutritional power. The xanthones available in pure mangosteen juice leave you feeling re-energized, refreshed, and rejuvenated, all while helping strengthen your immune system, ward of illnesses and leave you feeling great.

Indeed, the mangosteen can be ingested in many different forms. Regardless of what form you take the mangosteen in, as long as you are sure that the product’s main ingredient is actually that of mangosteen, then you can be sure that you are receiving even half of the plentiful beneficiary components that are found in anything derived from the mangosteen fruit.

Miracles of Carrot Juice

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Carrots are well known as the universal vegetable for juicing. Carrot juice has been well known as being a miracle juice, or the king of juices. Many people around the world have found that if they include carrot juice in their daily diet, that their overall health improves enormously. A common misconception is that carrot juice would be bitter or too deep in flavor. In reality, when carrots are juiced, they are actually very sweet tasting, and they mix great with other fruit juices, especially apple juice. Carrot juice blends with practically all other juices. It is a delicious nourishing beverage for all members of the family at all times and it should be an important part of the diet in cases of illness. You can also use carrot juice to lose weight by adding celery while juicing. This will help decrease the sweetness of the carrot juice. Carrot juice is best ingested in the afternoon because of the burst of energy that always follows.

The amount of carotene, (which is converted to vitamin A in the liver), contained in carrots is indicated by thedepth of the coloring matter. The large, firm, dark-yellow carrots, therefore, should be selected for juicing, rather than the light-yellow ones, because of their greater carotene content.

Carrot juice is very high in beta-carotene, and is a cancer fighting agent. Beta carotene is a pigment substance found in plants that can often form into vitamin A. Vitamin A helps to promote growth for visual light and color, prevents drying of the skin and eyes, helps maintain the digestive system and urinary tracts, as well as enhances the fight towards bacterial infection. Vitamin A may also be an aid in helping to prevent certain forms
of cancer. If you do not receive enough vitamin A, it may cause symptoms including: night blindness, poor growth, dry skin, and xerophthalmia or dry eye. The vitamin A from freshly juiced carrots is very important for women whoare pregnant. They need to build up and maintain the health of their own body, as well as the new developing child. Even after the baby is born, it is still imperative that fresh carrot juice is kept in the daily diet for
the mother nursing the child.

Carrot juice helps nursing mothers to enrich their milk. The chances of developing puerperal sepsis is minimized by the regular intake of carrot juice during pregnancy. If it is taken during the last three months of pregnancy, it tends to reduce the hazard of infection after childbirth. It also meets the demands of calcium
during pregnancy. One pound of carrot juice is equal to 20 pounds of calcium tablets as far as the active calcium is concerned.

Another vitamin contained in carrot juice is vitamin E. This vitamin appears in three forms, known chemically as alpha, beta, and gamma tocopherol, and commonly known as the vitamin E complex. In animal experimentation, vitamin E has been found to affect reproduction. When foods bearing this vitamin were fed to animals that had failed to reproduce, their sterility was overcome.

Carrots also carry other vitamins such as B, C, D, E, and K, and minerals like calcium, phosphorous, potassium, sodium, and traces of protein. Juicing your carrots will help to promote healthier hair, skin, and nails.

Because of its rich vitamin and mineral content and other valuable nutrients the daily diet should be fortified with the protective and healthful benefits of carrot juice. It can be taken alone, or combined with other fruit and vegetables juices.

Carrot juice is one of the richest sources of vitamin A that can be used in the daily diet. It also ranks high as a source of the other vitamins, especially those of the B complex. Its mineral content is equally rich, and includes calcium, copper, magnesium, potassium, sodium, phosphorus, chlorine, sulfur, and iron.

The carrot is recorded as being used in medicine by the early Greeks and has been cherished ever since. Its juice is one of the most delicious and healthful, and alone or in combinations should be in every daily diet providing, as it does, the essential vitamin A, without the saturated fats with which this vitamin is associated in eggs and butter.

Need as many answers as possible. Only answer if you know about acai juice though.?

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

I see all the health stores carrying acai juice in the glass bottles around $25-30. Also been to hear about Mon Avie. My question is this. Do you drink it and can you honestly tell me if it is worth it?

My neighbors are older folks who drink (and sell) Mon Avie and I have to say they are quite active and energetic. So I do wonder?

Acai is just a really healthy antioxidant rich berry. Nothing particularly special. The reason your neighbors are active and energetic has more to do with their overall health program and less to do with an individual drink. Mona Vie is nothing but a bunch of fruit juices with a super high price tag…

There are 19 different fruits in Mona Vie Active. They are:

Açai berry – The most important ingredient in Mona Vie Active Juice. The Açai berry is filled with phytonutrients, antioxidants, and trace minerals.

Pomegranate – Another powerful ingredient in Mona Vie Active that is rich in antioxidants and phytonutrients.

White Grape – An ingredient in Mona Vie Active that is thought to increase heart health and antioxidants.

Nashi Pear – An apple shaped fruit that is grown in Asia and included in the ingredient list of Mona Vie Active. It is a superb source of dietary fiber, high in vitamins and minerals including the B-complex group.

Acerola – A fruit found in Mona Vie Active, it is shaped like a cherry and is rich in antioxidants, vitamin C and many more essential minerals.

Pear – An excellent source of fiber. The pear found in Mona Vie Active is rich in protein and vitamins.

Aronia – Another important ingredient in Mona Vie Active, it is a berry that is filled with anthocyanins and flavonoids higher even than cranberries.

Purple Grape – Similar to white grape it is a substantial supplier of cardioprotective enzymes. It is also a key component in Mona Vie Active.

Cranberry – A wonderful feature of Mona Vie Active, it is an ideal balance of proteins, anthocyanins, and flavonoids.

Passion Fruit – An ingredient in Mona Vie Active, it is an excellent source of fiber and a super combination of Vitamins A and C.

Banana – A wonderful supplier of potassium and another feature found in Mona Vie Active.

Apricot – Full of Vitamin C and dietary fiber, it will be found in Mona Vie Active as well.

Prune – A vital feature of Mona Vie Active. It is proven to help reduce cholesterol. It may also be an excellent source of antioxidants and perhaps contributes to bone health.

Kiwi – A fruit included in Mona Vie Active, it is grown in New Zealand and full of Vitamin C, essential minerals like copper, magnesium, and manganese.

Blueberry – A rich source of anthocyanins and a wonderful element of Mona Vie Active. The U.S. Agricultural Research Service conducted research that points to the possibility that they contain chemicals that decrease the growth of cervical and breast cancer cells.

Bilberry – It contains an innate fusion of phytochemical glycosides called Cyanidin, Delphinidin, and Malvidin. As an ingredient in Mona Vie Active, it is believed to possess beneficial properties that positively affect the eyes as well as the circulatory system.

Camu Camu – Found on a bush in the Amazon Rain Forest, it is another fruit found in Mona Vie Active. It is known to have anti-depressant and anti-viral properties.

Wolfberry – Found in North West China, as an ingredient in Mona Vie Active, it contains many amino acids and 21 trace minerals.

Lychee – Another ingredient in Mona Vie Active, it can be found in Southern China. It contains high levels of Vitamin C, Potassium, and other nutrients.
