is it safe to drink apple juice during the last trimester?

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

I’m 36 wkd today and I was just wondering if it’s safe to drink apple juice that is concentrated? is it going to harm my baby? because I know not to drink unpasturized apple juice what about concentrate?

It’s absolutely okay. Concentrated just means they shipped the juice in a dehydrated form and then rehydrated it at the other end. There’s nothing it in that could hurt the fetus.

Is fruit juice which is made from concentrate still a healthy option?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Is it better to drink fruit juice which isn’t made from concentrate?

Yes it is still healthy, more sugar, but it’s still juice. If you are looking to go for the healthier option, then I would suggest going for 100% fruit juice.
It’s all a matter of personal preference, but I think the 100% juices NOT from concentrate taste better and fresher :)

what is the difference between fruit juice and fruit juice concentrate?

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Isn’t fruit juice concentrate made from fruit juice? So how come my packet of apple juice list of ingredients says "apple juice, apple juice concentrate"?
if the juice is dehydrated and water is added back again, does its nutritrient value decrease?
IF it doesn’t decrease then come people prefer fresh juice?

Concentrate means that the juice at some point needs water added to it. so when your apple juice says that, it means it’s made from fresh apple juice and apple juice thats been condensed which basically means partially dehydrated then had water added to it.

Is fruit juice from concentrate as healthy as the actual fruit? If not, how much worse is it?

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

I got this Bolthouse Farms juice and it has all these different fruits from concentrate. I’m trying to figure out how much healthier it is from the actual fruits themselves?
its organic by the way

fruit juice is less good for you than whole fruit because of its concentrated sugars and its lack of fiber.

Why does apple juice come from so many countries?

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

I got a Tropicana 100% apple juice from a drive thru today and when I read the ingredients, I noticed it said apple juice from concentrate and the concentrate is from Germany, Austria, Italy, Hungary, Argentina, Chile, Turkey, Brazil, China, and the United States. Then I went to a convenience store which and decided to check other apple juices to see where they are made. The store carried Dole brand and Minute Maid brand apple juice. Both of those brands also are made from concentrate from many different countries. Why do they need apples from so many countries?? Just wondering?

Just a guess… but maybe because apples can thrive in a large variety of climates and is therefore a great export for countries?

How long is an open container of prune juice good for?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

I have an infant who I give one to two ounces of prunce juice every day to help with his bowel movements. I have a gallon container and it’s going to take awhile to go through it and I definitely don’t want to give my son "bad" juice. The only website I found with storage information said that prunce juice concentrate is good for up to 24 months in a cool, dry place. However, it doesn’t specify it that is an OPEN container or not. Please help!

They are talking about a closed container. I wouldn’t keep it longer then 2 weeks in the fridge.

How to make calamansi juice concentrate and how to preserve it?

Monday, January 4th, 2010

How to make juice concentrate and how to preserve it?
I have quite some calamansi (very small lemons). I’d like to make some sweetened concentrate ( for making lemonade later ) and unsweetened concentrate or unsweetened juice for cooking. How to make this and how to preserve it? Could we keep it in 300ml plastic bottles?

Squeeze the juice from the calamansi and mix with sugar. After which, refrigerate. Do not put water in the mixture. When you want calamansi juice drink, that is the only time you get some of the concentrate and mix with ice cold water and sugar to sweeten it. Do not use hot water for it will kill the vitamin content of the juice.
